Indication
Vitamin B12 Injection (Cyanocobalamin 1 mg/2 mL) is used for the treatment and prevention of vitamin B12 deficiency states, including pernicious anaemia, megaloblastic anaemia due to B12 deficiency, and peripheral neuropathy, especially when oral absorption is impaired.
Ingredients
- Vitamin B12
Direction
Adults: Administered by intramuscular injection by a healthcare professional. For deficiency treatment: 1 mg IM every 2–3 days for 2 weeks, then monthly for maintenance. Dose and schedule as directed by a physician.
Side effects
- Injection site pain
- Hypokalaemia (with intensive treatment of severe deficiency)
- Allergic reactions including anaphylaxis (rare)
- Acne
- like skin eruptions (rare)
Precautions
- For injection by trained healthcare professionals only.
- Do not use if allergic to cyanocobalamin or cobalt.
- Monitor for hypokalaemia when treating severe megaloblastic anaemia.
- Exclude folate deficiency before treating megaloblastic anaemia with B12 alone.
- Use with caution in Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy.
- Keep out of reach of children.
