Indication

Salbutamol 1 mg/mL nebuliser solution is a selective beta-2 adrenergic bronchodilator used for the relief and prevention of bronchospasm in patients with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and other reversible obstructive airway diseases.

Direction

For nebulisation only. Adults: 2.5–5 mg (2.5–5 mL of 1 mg/mL solution) nebulised over 5–15 minutes, 3–4 times daily. Children: 0.15 mg/kg (minimum 2.5 mg) per nebulisation, 3–4 times daily. Always follow physician's instructions for dose and frequency.

Side effects

• Tremor
• palpitations
• tachycardia.
• Headache
• muscle cramps.
• Hypokalaemia at high doses.
• Paradoxical bronchospasm (rare).
• Nervousness
• restlessness.

Precautions

• For inhalation via nebuliser only — not for injection.
• Use with caution in patients with hyperthyroidism
• cardiovascular disease
• hypertension
• or diabetes.
• Hypokalaemia (low potassium) may occur with high doses
• monitor potassium levels.
• Tolerance to bronchodilator effect may develop with excessive use.
• Seek immediate medical attention if usual bronchodilator dose becomes insufficient.
• Keep out of reach of children.
