Indication

Sorbitol (Sorbitol Nutifine 5 g) is an osmotic laxative used for the relief of occasional constipation. It draws water into the bowel, softening stools and facilitating bowel movements.

Direction

Adults: dissolve one sachet (5 g) in a glass of water and drink, typically once daily or as directed by a physician. Rectal enema form (if applicable): administer as directed. Use the lowest effective dose.

Side effects

• Common: bloating
• flatulence
• diarrhoea (dose
• dependent).
• Uncommon: abdominal cramping
• nausea.

Precautions

• Do not use in patients with intestinal obstruction or inflammatory bowel disease.
• Prolonged use without medical supervision is not recommended.
• May cause diarrhoea if used in excess.
• Use with caution in diabetic patients (sorbitol contributes minor calories).
• Keep out of reach of children.
