Indication

Medirid (Domperidone Maleate) is a dopamine antagonist used as an antiemetic and prokinetic agent to relieve nausea, vomiting, bloating, and delayed gastric emptying. It is also used to manage gastroparesis.

Direction

Adults and adolescents over 12 years (body weight ≥ 35 kg): 10 mg (one standard tablet) up to three times daily before meals. Maximum 30 mg per day. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration. For children under 12 years or weighing less than 35 kg, use weight-based dosing (0.25 mg/kg per dose) with appropriate formulation.

Side effects

• Common: dry mouth
• headache.
• Uncommon: increased prolactin levels (galactorrhoea
• gynaecomastia).
• Rare: QT prolongation
• extrapyramidal reactions.

Precautions

• Risk of cardiac arrhythmias (QT prolongation)
• use with caution in patients with cardiac conditions.
• Avoid with other QT
• prolonging drugs or strong CYP3A4 inhibitors.
• Not recommended for long
• term use without reassessment.
• Avoid in patients with hepatic impairment or a history of prolactinoma.
• Keep out of reach of children.
