Zetro 500 500mg

Indication

Zetro 500 (Azithromycin 500 mg) is a macrolide antibiotic used for the treatment of bacterial infections including community-acquired pneumonia, sinusitis, pharyngitis/tonsillitis, skin and soft tissue infections, sexually transmitted infections (chlamydia, gonorrhoea), and Helicobacter pylori eradication (as part of combination therapy).

Direction

Adults: 500 mg once daily for 3 days, or 500 mg on Day 1 followed by 250 mg once daily for Days 2–5 (depending on infection). Swallow whole with or without food. Complete the full course as prescribed.

Side effects

• Common: nausea
• diarrhoea
• abdominal pain
• vomiting.
• Uncommon: dizziness
• headache
• skin rash.
• Rare: QT prolongation
• severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)
• hepatotoxicity.

Precautions

• Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
• May cause QT prolongation
• avoid in patients with known QT prolongation or taking other QT
• prolonging drugs.
• Avoid in patients with known hypersensitivity to azithromycin or other macrolides.
• Risk of Clostridioides difficile
• associated diarrhoea — consult a doctor if severe diarrhoea occurs.
• Keep out of reach of children.
