Indication

Emergency contraception to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sexual intercourse or contraceptive failure. Most effective when taken as soon as possible within 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected sex.

Direction

Adults: Take the single 1.5 mg tablet as soon as possible, within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse. The sooner it is taken, the more effective it is. Not for regular use as a contraceptive.

• Vomiting
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Breast tenderness
• Irregular menstrual bleeding or spotting
• Fatigue
• Lower abdominal pain

Precautions

• Not for use if pregnancy is already confirmed.
• Not effective against sexually transmitted infections.
• Use with caution in patients with severe liver disease.
• May be less effective in women over 75 kg body weight.
• Do not use as a regular method of contraception.
• Consult a doctor if vomiting occurs within 3 hours of taking the tablet (repeat dose may be needed).
• May interact with enzyme
• inducing drugs (e.g.
• rifampicin
• carbamazepine
• phenytoin
• St. John's Wort).
