Prosan 50 50 mg

Indication

Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). Also used to reduce the risk of stroke in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy, and to slow the progression of diabetic nephropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes and proteinuria.

Direction

Adults: For hypertension: usual starting dose is 50 mg once daily. The dose may be increased to 100 mg once daily after 3–6 weeks if blood pressure is not adequately controlled. May be taken with or without food.

• Hyperkalemia
• Renal impairment
• Upper respiratory tract infection
• Diarrhoea
• Fatigue

Precautions

• Contraindicated in pregnancy — can cause fetal harm.
• Contraindicated with concurrent use of aliskiren in patients with diabetes or renal impairment.
• Monitor serum potassium and renal function regularly.
• May cause hypotension
• especially in volume
• depleted patients.
• Use with caution in patients with renal artery stenosis.
• Risk of hyperkalemia with concomitant potassium
• sparing diuretics
• ACE inhibitors
• or potassium supplements.
• Keep out of reach of children.
