Indication
Relief of productive cough associated with respiratory tract infections in children. Guaifenesin acts as an expectorant; bromhexine is a mucolytic that reduces mucus viscosity to aid expectoration.
Ingredients
- Guaifenesin 50 mg per 5 mL
- Bromhexine HCl 2 mg per 5 mL
Direction
Children 6–12 years: 5–10 mL (1–2 teaspoons) every 6–8 hours. Children 2–6 years: 5 mL (1 teaspoon) every 6–8 hours. Children under 2 years: consult a physician. Shake well before use.
Side effects
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Gastrointestinal discomfort
- Dizziness (rare)
- Hypersensitivity reactions (rare)
Precautions
- Do not use in children with hypersensitivity to guaifenesin or bromhexine.
- Not recommended for use in neonates due to benzyl alcohol content (if present in formulation — check label).
- Use with caution in patients with peptic ulcer.
- Ensure adequate hydration when taking expectorants.
- If cough persists beyond 7 days or is accompanied by fever
- consult a doctor.
- Keep out of reach of children.
