Indication

Rhinex is a paediatric combination cold and flu syrup containing paracetamol (fever and pain relief), phenylephrine hydrochloride (nasal decongestant), and chlorpheniramine maleate (antihistamine). It is used to relieve symptoms of the common cold and flu including fever, runny nose, nasal congestion, sneezing, and sore throat in children.

Direction

Administer by age/weight as indicated on the product label. Typical dose: give every 4–6 hours as needed. Do not exceed 4 doses in 24 hours. Shake well before use. Use the measuring device provided.

Side effects

• Drowsiness or sedation
• Dry mouth
• Nausea or stomach upset
• Increased heart rate (phenylephrine)
• Difficulty urinating in susceptible patients

Precautions

• Do not exceed the recommended dose.
• Do not use with other paracetamol
• containing medicines.
• Do not use with MAOIs or within 14 days of stopping them.
• Chlorpheniramine may cause drowsiness in children
• monitor activities.
• Use with caution in children with liver or kidney disease.
• Consult a doctor before use in infants under 2 years.
• Avoid alcohol (relevant for older patients).
