Indication
- Prevention and treatment of haemorrhagic disease of the newborn - Vitamin K deficiency - Reversal of bleeding caused by oral anticoagulants (e.g. warfarin) - Hypoprothrombinaemia
Ingredients
- Phytomenadione (Vitamin K1) 10 mg/mL
Direction
Administered by a healthcare professional by slow intravenous or intramuscular injection; dose depends on indication, age and clinical condition.
Side effects
- Injection site pain or reaction
- Flushing or sweating
- Anaphylactoid reactions (rare
- with IV use)
- Transient hypotension
Precautions
- Intravenous injection must be given slowly to reduce risk of severe reactions
- Use with caution in severe hepatic impairment
- Monitor coagulation parameters (e.g. INR) when reversing anticoagulants
- Risk of anaphylactoid reactions with IV use
