Indication
Xanthine oxidase inhibitor used to lower elevated serum uric acid in the management of chronic gout, recurrent uric acid stones, and to prevent tumour-lysis-related hyperuricaemia.
Ingredients
- Allopurinol
Direction
Take orally with water after meals at the dose and frequency prescribed by your physician. Adequate fluid intake is recommended during treatment.
Side effects
- May cause skin rash
- gastrointestinal upset
- headache
- drowsiness
- or raised liver enzymes. Consult a doctor or pharmacist if symptoms persist
- and seek immediate care for severe skin reactions
- fever
- swelling of the face
- or breathing difficulty.
Precautions
- Do not use if allergic to allopurinol or any component
- or during an acute gout attack unless already on long
- term therapy. Inform your doctor of any kidney or liver disease
- thyroid disorder
- pregnancy
- breastfeeding
- or other medication (especially azathioprine
- mercaptopurine
- or warfarin). Stop the medicine and seek urgent care at the first sign of skin rash.
