Metro-MS 500 500 mg

Indication

Treatment of intestinal amoebiasis, asymptomatic amoebiasis, hepatic amoebiasis, trichomoniasis, giardiasis, and certain anaerobic bacterial infections (Clostridium perfringens, Bacteroides fragilis).

Ingredients

• Metronidazole

Direction

Intestinal amoebiasis (acute, symptomatic, histolytic form): adults 2 g in 1 single dose at the start of a meal; children 30 mg/kg/day in 1 single dose for 1 day. Asymptomatic amoebiasis (minuta and cystic form): same daily dose for 3 days. Hepatic amoebiasis: adults 1.5 g per day in one or several doses at the start of meals for 5 days.

Side effects

• Metallic taste
• nausea
• vomiting
• abdominal discomfort or diarrhoea may occur.
• Headache
• dizziness and rare neurological reactions have been reported.
• Stop use and consult a doctor or pharmacist immediately if severe allergy
• irritation or any unusual symptom develops.

Precautions

• Do not use if hypersensitive to metronidazole or other nitroimidazoles.
• Avoid alcohol during treatment and for 48 hours after stopping.
• Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment or central nervous system disorders.
• Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
• Stop use and seek medical advice if irritation or allergic reaction occurs.
