Indication
Prescription combipack for medical termination of intra-uterine pregnancy of up to 9 weeks (63 days), used in accordance with national regulations and only under direct supervision of a registered medical practitioner.
Ingredients
- Mifepristone 200 mg (1 tablet)
- Misoprostol 200 mcg (4 tablets)
Direction
Strictly under medical supervision. Day 1: Take Mifepristone 200 mg tablet orally. 24–48 hours later: Take Misoprostol 800 mcg (4 × 200 mcg tablets) — as a single dose, vaginally, sublingually or buccally, as directed by a prescribing doctor. Patient must be followed up by the prescriber 7–14 days after to confirm complete termination.
Side effects
- Common: uterine bleeding (often heavier than menstruation)
- abdominal cramping
- nausea
- vomiting
- diarrhoea
- fever
- chills
- headache.
- Serious: prolonged or excessive bleeding
- retained products of conception requiring surgical evacuation
- severe infection (sepsis)
- rarely cardiovascular events.
- Seek immediate medical attention for very heavy bleeding (soaking 2+ pads per hour for 2 hours)
- severe abdominal pain
- fever above 38°C for more than 4 hours
- or signs of an allergic reaction.
Precautions
- Prescription
- only product — use only under direct medical supervision in accordance with national regulations.
- Must not be used in confirmed or suspected ectopic pregnancy
- chronic adrenal failure
- severe asthma not controlled by therapy
- inherited porphyria
- haemorrhagic disorders
- or known hypersensitivity to the active substances.
- Surgical follow
- up must be available in case of treatment failure or severe bleeding.
- Heavy bleeding
- severe abdominal pain
- fever or signs of infection require immediate medical attention.
- Effective contraception should be started after the procedure as fertility may return immediately.
