Indication
- Prophylaxis for tetanus-prone wounds - Treatment of clinical tetanus cases - Immediate passive immunity against toxin - Emergency prevention in non-immunized patients
Ingredients
- Tetanus Antitoxin (Equine
- derived)
Direction
Administered via intramuscular or subcutaneous injection. A skin sensitivity test must be performed prior to administration to check for equine protein allergy.
Side effects
- Anaphylaxis
- Serum sickness (fever
- rash)
- Pain at injection site
- Urticaria or hives
- Swollen lymph nodes
Precautions
- High risk of anaphylactic shock
- Requires preliminary skin sensitivity testing
- Risk of delayed serum sickness
- Caution in patients with asthma
- Not a substitute for toxoid vaccine
