Ephagyl 500 mg

Indication

Antibacterial and antiprotozoal used for infections due to susceptible organisms, including urogenital trichomoniasis, non-specific vaginitis, acute intestinal amoebiasis, amoebic liver abscess caused by E. histolytica, and susceptible anaerobic infections.

Ingredients

• Metronidazole 500 mg

Direction

Oral route. Take as directed by a doctor. Typical courses: urogenital trichomoniasis 2 g as a single daily dose or per prescription; acute intestinal amoebiasis / amoebic liver abscess in adults one 500 mg tablet three times daily; non-specific vaginitis one 500 mg tablet twice daily for 7 days. Do not drink alcohol during treatment. Read the leaflet.

Side effects

• Nausea
• metallic taste
• loss of appetite and abdominal discomfort.
• Headache
• dizziness
• dark
• coloured urine may occur.
• Disulfiram
• like reaction if taken with alcohol.
• Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use and stop if irritation or allergy occurs.

Precautions

• Prescription only medicine — use under medical supervision.
• Do not drink alcohol during and for at least 48 hours after treatment.
• Use with caution in pregnancy (especially first trimester)

• and liver disease.
• Follow the prescribed doses. Keep out of reach of children.
