Diamide 5 mg / 500 mg

Indication

For the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults whose blood glucose is not adequately controlled by diet, exercise and metformin or a sulphonylurea alone.

Ingredients

• Glibenclamide 5 mg
• Metformin hydrochloride 500 mg

Direction

Taken with meals at the dose prescribed by the doctor; the dose is adjusted according to blood glucose response.

Side effects

• Hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar)
• especially with skipped meals or alcohol
• Gastrointestinal upset such as nausea
• diarrhoea and metallic taste
• Weight gain
• Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use and stop if irritation or allergy occurs

Precautions

• Do not use in type 1 diabetes
• diabetic ketoacidosis
• or severe kidney or liver impairment
• Metformin component carries a rare risk of lactic acidosis
• stop before surgery or iodinated contrast
• Higher hypoglycaemia risk in the elderly and with irregular meals
