Indication
- Congestive heart failure - Essential hypertension - Edema from liver cirrhosis - Primary hyperaldosteronism - Hypokalemia treatment and prevention - Hormonal acne or hirsutism
Ingredients
- Spironolactone
Direction
Take orally, usually once or twice daily as prescribed. Administration with food can help increase absorption and reduce stomach upset.
Side effects
- Gynecomastia (breast enlargement in men)
- Menstrual irregularities in women
- Hyperkalemia (high blood potassium)
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Stomach cramps or nausea
Precautions
- Monitor serum potassium levels frequently
- Avoid potassium supplements or salt substitutes
- Contraindicated in severe renal impairment
- Risk of hyperkalemia (high potassium)
- Potential interaction with ACE inhibitors
