Glucophage 1000 mg

Indication

Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly in overweight patients, when diet and exercise alone do not provide adequate blood glucose control. Used as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetic agents or insulin.

Ingredients

• Metformin Hydrochloride 1000 mg

Direction

Oral use. Take with or after meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. The 1000 mg strength is usually taken as one tablet 1 to 2 times daily (maximum 3 tablets daily), adjusted by the physician according to blood glucose. Swallow whole with water; do not crush. Follow your doctor's prescription.

Side effects

• Very common: nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea
• abdominal pain and loss of appetite
• usually at the start of treatment. Common: taste disturbance (metallic taste). Rare but serious: lactic acidosis
• which requires immediate medical attention. Long
• term use may reduce vitamin B12 absorption. If you experience any side effects
• consult a doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions

• Prescription only medicine. Do not use if you have severe kidney impairment
• acute conditions that may affect kidney function (dehydration
• severe infection
• shock)
• diabetic ketoacidosis
• or severe liver impairment. Avoid excessive alcohol. Treatment must be stopped before surgery under general anaesthesia and before injection of iodinated contrast media. Kidney function should be checked regularly. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not exceed the stated dose. Keep out of the reach of children. Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use.
