Indication
For the treatment of upper respiratory tract infections; lower respiratory tract infections due to streptococci, pneumococci, non-penicillinase producing staphylococci and H. influenzae; uncomplicated genitourinary tract infections; gonorrhoea; biliary tract infections; skin and muscle infections due to streptococci, staphylococci and E. coli sensitive to amoxicillin.
Ingredients
- Amoxicillin (as amoxicillin trihydrate) 250 mg
Direction
Chew or grind the tablet before ingestion. The drug can be taken before or after meals. Adults and children over 10 years of age: 500 mg (2 tablets) 3 times daily. Children aged from 10 years: 125-250 mg (½ - 1 tablet) 3 times daily. Children weighing less than 20 kg: 20-40 mg/kg of body weight, divided into 2-3 doses — children aged less than 1 year: ½ tablet twice daily; children aged from 1-5 years: ½ tablet twice daily; children aged from 5-10 years: 1 tablet 3 times daily. For patients with renal impairment: Cl creatinine < 10 ml/min: 500 mg/24 hrs; Cl creatinine > 10 ml/min: 500 mg/12 hrs. Or as directed by the physician.
Side effects
- May cause hypersensitivity reactions such as rash or urticaria
- and gastrointestinal effects such as nausea
- vomiting or diarrhoea. Serious allergic reactions can occur with beta
- lactam antibiotics. If serious or unusual effects occur
- consult a doctor or pharmacist.
Precautions
- Rx — for prescription only. Contraindicated in patients with a known history of hypersensitivity to beta
- lactam antibiotics. Keep out of reach of children and read the directions carefully before use. Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use
