Utosamide 500 mg

Indication

Anthelmintic for the treatment of taeniasis (tapeworm infestation), including beef, pork, fish and dwarf tapeworm.

Ingredients

• Niclosamide 500 mg

Direction

Chew the tablets thoroughly, then drink water. For children, crush the tablets and mix with water before taking. Take as a single dose after breakfast; a laxative may be given about 2 hours later to help expel the worm. Adults and older children: 4 tablets. Children 2-6 years: 2 tablets. Children under 2 years: 1 tablet. Use as directed by a physician.

Side effects

• May cause nausea
• vomiting
• abdominal pain
• diarrhoea
• loss of appetite
• headache
• dizziness or skin rash and itching. If you experience any unwanted effects
• consult a doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions

• Marked as a dangerous drug in Thailand
• use under medical supervision. Do not use if you are allergic to niclosamide. Avoid alcohol during treatment. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breast
• feeding
• or if the patient is a young child. In suspected pork tapeworm (Taenia solium) infection a laxative may be advised to reduce the risk of complications
• follow your doctor's instructions. Keep out of reach of children. If in doubt
