Indication
Concentrated glucose solution given by intravenous injection to treat low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia), to supply heat energy and body fluid to patients who are short of food or unable to take food, and to treat starvation ketosis. For use by a healthcare professional only.
Ingredients
- Dextrose 5 g per 10 mL
Direction
For intravenous injection by a healthcare professional. Supply heat energy: 25% glucose may be given by intravenous injection to patients short of food or unable to take food, and to supply body fluid; the dosage depends on the heat energy needed. Hypoglycaemia: 20-40 mL of 50% glucose injection may be given by intravenous injection for severe patients. Starvation ketosis: 5%-25% glucose injection should be administered by intravenous drip infusion to severe patients; 100 g of glucose daily could control the illness. Side effects
- Pain
- irritation
- or inflammation of the vein at the injection site may occur because the solution is concentrated. Leakage outside the vein can damage surrounding tissue. High blood sugar and fluid overload are possible. Consult a doctor or pharmacist if you experience any unexpected reaction.
Precautions
- For intravenous use only
- must be administered by a healthcare professional. Use with caution in people with diabetes. Inject slowly into a large vein to reduce vein irritation. Do not use if the solution is discoloured or contains particles. Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use.
