Indication

NYSTATIN is an antifungal antibiotic used for treatment and prevention of Candida (fungal) infections of the gastrointestinal tract (oral candidiasis, oesophageal candidiasis) and intestinal candidiasis. It is not absorbed from the gut and acts locally.

Ingredients

• Nystatin 100
• 000 IU

Direction

Adults and children: 500,000–1,000,000 IU (5–10 tablets of 100,000 IU) 4 times daily. For oral use, the tablet should be swallowed; oral suspension or lozenges may be used for oral thrush. Continue for 48 hours after clinical cure.

Side effects

• Nausea
• vomiting
• and diarrhoea (at high oral doses).
• Oral irritation.
• Skin rash (rare).

Precautions

• Primarily for topical or non
• systemic use — not active against systemic fungal infections.
• If symptoms do not improve within 2–3 weeks
• consult a physician.
• Use with caution during pregnancy
• topical forms generally preferred.
