Mediclovir Acyclovir 400 mg

Indication

Mediclovir contains acyclovir, an antiviral agent used for treatment and suppression of herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections (genital herpes, herpes labialis), herpes zoster (shingles), and varicella in immunocompromised patients.

Ingredients

• Acyclovir 400 mg

Direction

Adults: For treatment of genital herpes: 200–400 mg 5 times daily for 5 days. For suppression: 400 mg twice daily. For herpes zoster: 800 mg 5 times daily for 7 days. Start treatment as early as possible.

Side effects

• Nausea and headache.
• Gastrointestinal discomfort.
• Dizziness.
• Fatigue.
• Elevated creatinine with high doses.
• Neurological effects (rare
• in renal impairment).

Precautions

• Maintain adequate hydration during treatment.
• Dose reduction required in renal impairment.
• Does not cure herpes virus infection or prevent transmission.
• Use with caution during pregnancy — consult physician.
• Neurological adverse effects possible in elderly or renally impaired patients.
