TETRA-MS 500 Tetracycline 500 mg

Indication

TETRA-MS 500 contains tetracycline, a broad-spectrum antibiotic used for treatment of acne vulgaris, respiratory infections (including atypical pneumonia), chlamydia, rickettsial infections, Lyme disease, cholera, brucellosis, and as an alternative when penicillin is contraindicated.

Ingredients

• Tetracycline HCl 500 mg

Direction

Adults: 250–500 mg every 6 hours (4 times daily) on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. Duration varies by indication (usually 7–14 days for infections).

Side effects

• Nausea
• vomiting
• and gastrointestinal discomfort.
• Photosensitivity.
• Tooth discolouration in children.
• Skin rash.
• Candidiasis (oral or vaginal).
• Oesophageal irritation.
• Elevated liver enzymes with prolonged use.

Precautions

• Not recommended in children under 8 years (permanent tooth discolouration and impaired bone growth).
• Contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• Do not take with antacids
• calcium
• containing products
• dairy
• iron
• or zinc — take at least 2 hours apart.
• May cause photosensitivity
• avoid excessive sun exposure.
• May reduce efficacy of oral contraceptives.
• Take on an empty stomach for optimal absorption.
