Omeprazole GPO 20 mg

Indication

Used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcer disease (gastric and duodenal ulcers), Helicobacter pylori eradication (in combination therapy), Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and prevention of NSAID-associated gastric ulcers.

Ingredients

• Omeprazole 20 mg

Direction

Adults: Typically 20 mg once daily before breakfast for 4–8 weeks depending on the condition. For H. pylori eradication, used in combination with antibiotics as directed by a doctor. Swallow capsule whole; do not crush or chew.

Side effects

• Headache.
• Diarrhoea
• nausea
• vomiting
• abdominal pain.
• Flatulence
• constipation.
• Rare: hypomagnesaemia
• bone fracture risk with prolonged use
• C. difficile
• associated diarrhoea.

Precautions

• Long
• term use may be associated with hypomagnesaemia and vitamin B12 deficiency.
• May mask symptoms of gastric cancer
• exclude malignancy before starting therapy.
• Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
• May reduce absorption of drugs dependent on gastric pH (e.g. ketoconazole
• atazanavir).
• Consult a doctor before use if pregnant or breastfeeding.
• Keep out of reach of children.
