Indication
Topical antibiotic for the treatment of external infections of the eye and its adnexa (such as bacterial conjunctivitis) caused by susceptible bacteria.
Ingredients
- Tobramycin 0.3% (3 mg/ml)
Direction
For use in the eye only, as directed by a physician. Mild to moderate infections: instil 1 to 2 drops into the affected eye(s) every 4 hours. Severe infections: instil 2 drops into the affected eye(s) every hour until improvement, then reduce the frequency before stopping. Do not let the dropper tip touch the eye or any surface. If using other eye medicines, wait at least 5 minutes between them.
Side effects
- Eye discomfort and eye redness are common. Uncommon effects include eye itching
- eye pain
- watery or dry eyes
- eyelid swelling or redness
- blurred vision
- eye discharge
- headache and skin reactions. Stop use and consult a doctor or pharmacist if irritation
- rash or another allergic reaction occurs.
Precautions
- Do not use if you are allergic to tobramycin
- other aminoglycosides or any of the ingredients.
- Not for injection into the eye.
- Prolonged use may lead to overgrowth of resistant organisms
- including fungi.
- Contains benzalkonium chloride
- which may irritate the eyes and discolour soft contact lenses
- contact lens wear is not recommended during an eye infection. If lenses are allowed
- remove them before use and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting.
- Use with caution together with systemic aminoglycoside antibiotics
- or in people with myasthenia gravis or Parkinson's disease.
- May cause temporary blurred vision
- do not drive or operate machinery until vision clears.
- Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only if advised by a doctor. Keep out of reach of children.
