Indication
For symptomatic relief of indigestion. Treatment of gastric ulcer and traveler's diarrhea. Symptomatic treatment of mild, nonspecific diarrhea.
Ingredients
- Bismuth subsalicylate 262 mg per 15 ml (1 tablespoonful)
Direction
Shake well before use. Take 4 times daily before meals and at bedtime. Adults: 2 tablespoonfuls. Children 9–12 years: 1 tablespoonful; 6–9 years: 2 teaspoonfuls; 3–6 years: 1 teaspoonful. Under 3 years: as directed by a physician. The dose may be repeated every 1/2–1 hour if needed, but do not exceed 8 doses per day.
Side effects
- Temporary
- harmless blackening of the tongue and stools
- Constipation
- Ringing in the ears may indicate too much salicylate
- stop use and seek medical advice
- Consult a doctor or pharmacist if any side effect is troublesome or persists
- and stop use if an allergic reaction occurs.
Precautions
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Contains a salicylate: do not use if allergic to aspirin or other salicylates.
- Do not give to children or teenagers who have or are recovering from chickenpox or flu
- like symptoms (risk of Reye's syndrome).
- Do not exceed 8 doses per day
- consult a doctor if diarrhea lasts more than 2 days or is accompanied by high fever or blood in the stool.
- Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use if taking anticoagulants
- medicines for diabetes or gout
- or if pregnant or breastfeeding.
