Albendazole 400 mg

Indication

Albendazole is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic for the treatment of single or mixed intestinal worm infestations: pinworm/threadworm (Enterobius vermicularis), whipworm (Trichuris trichiura), large roundworm (Ascaris lumbricoides), hookworm (Ancylostoma duodenale, Necator americanus), Strongyloides stercoralis and tapeworm (Taenia spp.).

Ingredients

• Albendazole USP 400 mg per chewable tablet

Direction

As directed by the physician. Usual dose for adults and children over 2 years: one 400 mg tablet as a single dose (one dose); the tablet may be chewed, crushed or swallowed with water. Some infections (e.g. strongyloidiasis, tapeworm) may need a longer course as prescribed.

Side effects

• Abdominal pain
• nausea
• vomiting or diarrhoea
• Headache or dizziness
• Rarely
• rash
• itching or raised liver enzymes
• Consult a doctor or pharmacist if any side effect is troublesome or persists
• and stop use if an allergic reaction occurs.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in pregnancy
• women of childbearing age should avoid pregnancy around treatment.
• Do not use if allergic to albendazole or other benzimidazoles.
• Use with caution in liver disease
• consult a doctor or pharmacist before use if breastfeeding.
• Not for children under 2 years unless directed by a doctor.
• Keep the medicine away from children.
