Indication
Triazole antifungal for the treatment of fungal infections such as vaginal, oropharyngeal and oesophageal candidiasis, systemic Candida infections (including urinary tract infections and peritonitis), cryptococcal meningitis, and fungal skin and nail infections; also for prevention of fungal infections in at-risk patients as directed by a physician.
Ingredients
- Fluconazole BP 200 mg
Direction
Oral route. As directed by the physician; the dose and duration depend on the type of infection (for example, 200-400 mg on the first day followed by 100-200 mg once daily). Capsules should be swallowed whole and not chewed, opened or crushed.
Side effects
- Headache
- Nausea
- abdominal pain
- diarrhoea or vomiting
- Skin rash
- Changes in liver function tests
- rarely
- serious liver problems
- Rarely
- dizziness or changes in taste
- Serious skin or allergic reactions are rare
- stop use and seek medical help
Precautions
- Do not use if allergic to fluconazole or other azole antifungals
- Use with caution in liver or kidney disease
- the dose may need adjustment
- May affect heart rhythm (QT prolongation)
- do not combine with certain medicines such as cisapride
- terfenadine
- pimozide
- quinidine or erythromycin
- tell your doctor about all medicines you take
- Interacts with blood thinners (warfarin)
- some diabetes
- epilepsy and other medicines
- Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use if pregnant or breastfeeding
- Keep out of reach of children
