Indication
Fluoroquinolone antibiotic for the treatment of bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, such as urinary tract infections, lower respiratory tract infections, gastrointestinal infections including infectious diarrhea and typhoid fever, gonorrhea, bone and joint infections, and skin and soft-tissue infections.
Ingredients
- Ciprofloxacin (as hydrochloride USP) 500 mg
Direction
Oral route, as directed by the physician. Usual adult dose: 250-750 mg every 12 hours depending on the type and severity of infection, swallowed whole with water. Complete the full course prescribed.
Side effects
- Nausea
- diarrhea
- vomiting or abdominal pain
- Headache or dizziness
- Rash or itching
- Sensitivity to sunlight
- Rarely
- tendon pain or rupture
- nerve problems (tingling
- numbness)
- or mood changes
- stop use and seek medical help
- Severe allergic reaction or severe/bloody diarrhea: stop use and seek medical help immediately
Precautions
- Prescription only
- use as directed by the physician
- Do not use if allergic to ciprofloxacin or other quinolones
- Do not take with tizanidine
- Use with caution in epilepsy
- myasthenia gravis
- kidney impairment
- heart rhythm disorders
- and in the elderly (higher risk of tendon problems)
- Separate from antacids
- iron
- zinc
- calcium or dairy products by at least 2 hours before or 6 hours after
- Avoid excessive sun exposure
- may cause dizziness
- so use caution when driving
- Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless advised by a doctor
- Keep out of reach of children
