Indication
Proton pump inhibitor that reduces stomach acid. Used for gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (heartburn, acid regurgitation), reflux oesophagitis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and with antibiotics for Helicobacter pylori eradication. Prescription only medicine.
Ingredients
- Omeprazole BP 20 mg (as enteric
- coated pellets)
Direction
Oral route, as directed by the physician. Usual adult dose: 1 capsule (20 mg) once daily, preferably before breakfast; swallow whole with water, do not chew or crush. Dose and duration depend on the condition being treated.
Side effects
- Headache
- Abdominal pain
- nausea
- vomiting
- diarrhoea
- constipation or flatulence
- Dizziness
- Skin rash or itching
- Long
- term use may lower magnesium or vitamin B12 levels and increase fracture risk
- Rarely
- serious allergic reactions
- stop use and seek medical help
Precautions
- Prescription only medicine
- use under medical supervision
- Do not use if allergic to omeprazole or other proton pump inhibitors
- Tell your doctor about other medicines
- especially clopidogrel
- warfarin
- methotrexate or HIV medicines
- Seek medical advice if you have unexplained weight loss
- difficulty swallowing
- vomiting blood or black stools
- Use with caution in liver impairment
- Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use if pregnant or breastfeeding
- Keep out of reach of children
