Indication

Lipid-lowering medicine (statin) used together with diet to lower high LDL ("bad") cholesterol, total cholesterol and triglycerides and raise HDL cholesterol, and to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke and other cardiovascular events in patients at increased risk.

Ingredients
  • Atorvastatin calcium USP equivalent to atorvastatin 20 mg
Direction

Oral route, dosage as directed by the physician. Usually taken once a day at any time of day, with or without food, at the same time each day; usual dose range 10 to 80 mg daily. Continue the cholesterol-lowering diet during treatment.

  • Nausea

  • indigestion or wind
  • Sore throat or nosebleed (cold
  • like symptoms)
  • Raised liver enzymes or raised blood sugar
  • Rarely
  • severe muscle damage (unexplained muscle pain
  • weakness or dark urine) or liver problems (yellow skin/eyes)

  • Do not use if allergic to atorvastatin
  • with active liver disease or unexplained persistently raised liver enzymes
  • Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • women who may become pregnant should use effective contraception
  • Report unexplained muscle pain
  • tenderness or weakness promptly
  • especially with fever
  • Liver function should be checked before and during treatment
  • Avoid large amounts of grapefruit juice and alcohol
  • Tell the doctor about other medicines (e.g. clarithromycin
  • itraconazole
  • ciclosporin
  • HIV protease inhibitors
  • gemfibrozil) because of interaction risk
  • Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use if you have kidney disease
  • thyroid problems or diabetes
  • Keep out of reach of children
