Indication
Penicillin-class antibiotic for bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, such as respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, pneumonia), ear, nose and throat infections, urinary tract infections, gastrointestinal infections and skin and soft tissue infections.
Ingredients
- Ampicillin (as ampicillin trihydrate) 500 mg
Direction
Oral route, preferably 30 minutes to 1 hour before meals. Usual adult dose: 250–500 mg every 6 hours, or as prescribed by a doctor. Children's dose is based on body weight as prescribed. Read the package leaflet carefully.
Side effects
- Nausea
- vomiting or diarrhoea
- Abdominal pain or upset stomach
- Skin rash or itching
- Oral or vaginal thrush (candidiasis)
- Rarely
- severe allergic reactions (swelling
- difficulty breathing)
- stop use and seek medical help immediately
- Severe or bloody diarrhoea may indicate antibiotic
- associated colitis
- contact a doctor
Precautions
- Do not use if allergic to penicillins
- cephalosporins or any ingredient
- Prescription medicine: use only as directed by a doctor
- Avoid in infectious mononucleosis (high risk of rash)
- Complete the full course even if you feel better
- Use with caution in kidney or liver impairment
- Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use if pregnant or breastfeeding
- Keep out of reach of children
