Indication
Treatment of acute diarrhoea in adults and children above 2 years, in addition to oral rehydration; symptomatic treatment of chronic functional diarrhoea in adults; symptomatic treatment of pain associated with functional bowel disease in adults.
Ingredients
- Diosmectite 3 g
Direction
Oral use. Dissolve the contents of the sachet in half a glass of water just before use. Adults: usually 3 sachets per day; in acute diarrhoea the dose may be doubled at the start of treatment. Children over 2 years with acute diarrhoea: 2 sachets per day (up to 4 per day at the start). Read the package leaflet before use.
Side effects
- Constipation (common)
- Bloating or flatulence
- Rarely
- allergic reactions such as rash
- itching or swelling
- stop use and seek medical help
Precautions
- Oral rehydration remains essential in acute diarrhoea
- especially in children
- Take other medicines at a different time (about 2 hours apart)
- as diosmectite may reduce their absorption
- Consult a doctor if diarrhoea persists beyond 2 days or is accompanied by fever
- blood in stools or vomiting
- Use with caution in patients with a history of severe chronic constipation
- Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use in pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Keep out of reach of children
