Indication
Antiviral cream used for the topical treatment of herpes simplex infections of the skin, including cold sores (herpes labialis) and genital herpes.
Ingredients
- Acyclovir 5% (w/w) cream
- 5 g tube
Direction
Adults and children over 12 years: Apply a thin layer to the affected area 5 times daily (every 4 hours during waking hours) for 5β10 days. Begin treatment as early as possible at the first sign of symptoms.
Side effects
- Local burning
- stinging
- or itching at application site.
- Transient skin dryness or flaking.
- Rarely: allergic contact dermatitis.
Precautions
- For external use only.
- Avoid application to eyes or mucous membranes.
- Wash hands before and after application.
- Not a cure for herpes β virus remains latent after lesions heal.
- Keep out of reach of children.
