Oxetine 20 mg

Indication

Treatment of major depressive episodes, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and bulimia nervosa (with psychotherapy), as prescribed by a doctor.

Ingredients

• Fluoxetine hydrochloride equivalent to fluoxetine 20 mg

Direction

Usual adult dose is 20 mg (one capsule) once daily, preferably in the morning, with or without food. The doctor may adjust the dose. Do not stop suddenly; follow the prescription.

Side effects

• Nausea
• diarrhoea
• dry mouth
• loss of appetite
• Headache
• insomnia
• drowsiness
• nervousness or anxiety
• Sweating
• tremor
• sexual dysfunction
• Suicidal thoughts or behaviour
• especially in people under 25 at the start of treatment
• contact a doctor immediately
• Rarely serotonin syndrome
• bleeding
• rash or allergic reactions
• Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use and stop if irritation or allergy occurs.

Precautions

• Prescription medicine
• use only as directed by a doctor
• Do not use with or within 14 days of stopping an MAO inhibitor
• wait at least 5 weeks after stopping fluoxetine before starting an MAO inhibitor
• Do not combine with pimozide or thioridazine
• tell the doctor about other antidepressants
• triptans
• tramadol
• anticoagulants or NSAIDs
• Use with caution in epilepsy
• heart rhythm problems
• liver disease
• diabetes
• bleeding disorders
• pregnancy and breast
• feeding
• May impair alertness
• avoid alcohol and take care when driving
• Do not stop abruptly
• the dose should be reduced gradually under medical advice
• Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use and stop if irritation or allergy occurs.
