Orasel Orange 21.8 g sachet (for 1 litre)

Indication

Orange-flavoured oral rehydration salts (WHO standard) to replace water and electrolytes lost through diarrhoea, vomiting, heavy sweating or exercise, and to prevent or treat dehydration.

Ingredients

• Sodium chloride 2.6 g
• Potassium chloride 1.5 g
• Sodium citrate 2.9 g
• Anhydrous glucose 13.5 g

Direction

Dissolve the whole sachet in 1 litre of clean drinking water (boiled and cooled) and stir well. Drink in small, frequent sips after each loose stool. Use the solution within 24 hours and discard the rest. Do not add sugar or boil the prepared solution.

Side effects

• Generally well tolerated
• mild vomiting may occur if drunk too quickly.
• Excess salt (hypernatraemia) if made with too little water.

Precautions

• Always use the full 1 litre of water
• do not make a more concentrated solution.
• Seek medical care for severe dehydration
• blood in stool
• persistent vomiting
• high fever or diarrhoea lasting more than 2 days
• and in infants.
• Use with caution in kidney disease
• heart failure or diabetes.
