CIPROTEX Ciprofloxacine 500mg

Indication

Ciprofloxacin is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections including urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, gastrointestinal infections, and typhoid fever.

Ingredients

• Ciprofloxacin hydrochloride 500 mg

Direction

Adults: 250–750 mg twice daily (every 12 hours) depending on severity and type of infection. Duration typically 7–14 days. Take with plenty of water. Avoid taking with dairy products or antacids containing magnesium or aluminium within 2 hours of dosing.

Side effects

• Nausea
• diarrhoea
• vomiting
• or abdominal discomfort.
• Headache or dizziness.
• Skin rash or photosensitivity.
• Tendinitis or tendon rupture (rare
• particularly Achilles tendon).
• CNS effects: insomnia
• agitation
• or seizures (rare).

Precautions

• Do not use if allergic to ciprofloxacin or other quinolones.
• Avoid in children and adolescents under 18 years (except for specific indications) due to risk of arthropathy.
• Risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture
• especially in elderly patients or those on corticosteroids.
• Avoid excessive sunlight or UV exposure (photosensitivity).
• May interact with theophylline
• warfarin
• antacids
• and iron supplements.
• Use with caution in patients with epilepsy or a history of CNS disorders.
• Avoid in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
