AMPIMASTER Ampicillin 500mg

Indication

Ampicillin is a broad-spectrum aminopenicillin antibiotic used to treat susceptible bacterial infections including urinary tract infections, respiratory infections, meningitis, endocarditis prophylaxis, and gastrointestinal infections (e.g., Salmonella, Shigella — though resistance is common).

Ingredients

• Ampicillin 500 mg

Direction

Adults: Take one 500 mg capsule every 6 hours (4 times daily) on an empty stomach (30 minutes before meals or 2 hours after). For severe infections: dose and duration as directed by physician. Complete the full course.

Side effects

• Diarrhoea
• nausea
• Skin rash (particularly maculopapular in EBV infection)
• Oral or vaginal candidiasis
• Allergic reactions including anaphylaxis (rare but serious)

Precautions

• Do not use if allergic to ampicillin or other penicillins.
• Cross
• reactivity with cephalosporins — use with caution if history of cephalosporin allergy.
• Risk of anaphylaxis — seek emergency care for any allergic reaction.
• May cause antibiotic
• associated diarrhoea including C. difficile colitis.
• High incidence of skin rash in patients with infectious mononucleosis (EBV) or lymphocytic leukaemia.
• Use with caution in renal impairment.
• Consult a doctor before use in pregnancy or breastfeeding.
• Keep out of reach of children.
