Maalox Antacid

Indication

Maalox is an antacid used for rapid symptomatic relief of heartburn, acid indigestion, upset stomach, and sour stomach associated with gastroesophageal reflux, peptic ulcer, and gastritis. The dual-ingredient formula provides balanced antacid action.

Ingredients

• Aluminium hydroxide 400 mg
• Magnesium hydroxide 400 mg

Direction

Adults and children over 12 years: Take 1–2 tablets (or 5–10 mL suspension) 1 hour after meals and at bedtime, or as directed by a physician. Chew tablets thoroughly before swallowing. Do not take for more than 2 weeks without medical advice.

• Diarrhoea (magnesium component)
• Chalky taste

Precautions

• Use with caution in patients with renal impairment — risk of aluminium and magnesium accumulation.
• May reduce absorption of other drugs (fluoroquinolones
• tetracyclines
• ketoconazole
• iron) — separate by at least 2 hours.
• Avoid prolonged use without medical supervision.
• Consult a doctor if symptoms persist beyond 2 weeks or worsen.
• Keep out of reach of children.
