OK 72 Levonorgestrel 0.75mg

Indication

OK 72 is a progestogen-only emergency contraceptive pill (ECP) used to prevent pregnancy after unprotected intercourse or contraceptive failure. Most effective when taken as soon as possible within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse.

Ingredients

• Levonorgestrel 0.75 mg per tablet (pack of 2 tablets)

Direction

Take 1 tablet (0.75 mg) as soon as possible and within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse, followed by the second tablet 12 hours later. Alternatively, both tablets (1.5 mg) may be taken as a single dose within 72 hours. Can be taken with food if nausea is a concern.

Side effects

• Nausea
• vomiting.
• Irregular menstrual bleeding / spotting.
• Breast tenderness
• headache
• dizziness.
• Fatigue.
• Menstrual period may be early or late.

Precautions

• Not for use as regular contraception.
• Not effective if taken more than 72 hours after unprotected intercourse.
• Use with caution in patients with severe liver disease or unexplained vaginal bleeding.
• Does not protect against sexually transmitted infections.
• Efficacy may be reduced in patients taking enzyme
• inducing drugs (e.g.
• rifampicin
• certain anticonvulsants).
• If vomiting occurs within 2 hours of taking the tablet
• an additional dose should be taken.
• Keep out of reach of children.
