CEFON 1000 Injection 1000 mg

Indication

Used for the treatment of serious bacterial infections including septicemia, meningitis, pneumonia, intra-abdominal infections, skin and soft tissue infections, urinary tract infections, bone and joint infections, and gonorrhea.

Ingredients

• Ceftriaxone sodium 1000 mg (1 g) — for injection

Direction

Adults: 1–2 g once daily IM or IV. Severe infections: up to 4 g/day. Meningitis: 2–4 g once daily. Children: 50–80 mg/kg/day. Reconstitute and administer under medical supervision. IV infusion over at least 30 minutes.

Side effects

• Pain and phlebitis at injection site
• Diarrhea / Clostridium difficile
• associated colitis (rare)
• Skin rash / urticaria
• Eosinophilia
• Elevation of liver enzymes
• Biliary sludge (with prolonged use)
• Hypersensitivity reactions

Precautions

• Contraindicated in hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
• Use with caution in patients with penicillin allergy (cross
• reactivity possible).
• Contraindicated in neonates requiring IV calcium
• containing fluids — risk of fatal calcium
• ceftriaxone precipitation.
• Monitor renal and hepatic function with prolonged use.
• May cause biliary sludge/gallstones with prolonged use.
