Augmentin Amoxicillin trihydrate, Potassium clavulanate

Indication

Treatment of bacterial infections resistant to amoxicillin alone, including sinusitis, otitis media, lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and animal bite wounds.

Ingredients

• Amoxicillin trihydrate 500mg
• Potassium clavulanate 125mg

Direction

Adults: 1 tablet (500/125mg) three times daily or 1 tablet (875/125mg) twice daily with meals. Children: dose by weight. Take at the start of a meal to minimise GI side effects.

Side effects

• Diarrhoea
• nausea
• vomiting (common).
• Skin rash
• urticaria.
• Hepatic dysfunction (rare).
• Antibiotic
• associated colitis (rare).
• Rare: severe allergic reactions.

Precautions

• Do not use if allergic to penicillin or cephalosporins.
• Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment (monitor liver function).
• Avoid use in patients with history of cholestatic jaundice related to co
• amoxiclav.
• Complete the full prescribed course.
• Keep out of reach of children.
