TETRA-MS 500 Tetracycline 500mg

Indication

Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections, acne vulgaris, urinary tract infections, Chlamydia, Rickettsial infections, and Helicobacter pylori eradication (in combination therapy).

Ingredients

• Tetracycline hydrochloride 500mg

Direction

Adults: 250–500mg four times daily (every 6 hours), taken on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after meals). Take with a full glass of water. Duration: 7–14 days depending on infection.

Side effects

• Gastrointestinal disturbances: nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea.
• Photosensitivity reactions.
• Oesophageal irritation (take with plenty of water in upright position).
• Dental staining in children.
• Rare: hepatotoxicity
• pseudotumour cerebri.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in children under 8 years (permanent tooth discoloration).
• Contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• Avoid concomitant use with antacids
• dairy products
• iron supplements (reduces absorption).
• Do not use with penicillin antibiotics.
• Avoid prolonged sun exposure (photosensitivity).
• Keep out of reach of children.
