Povidone iodine solution 125ml

Indication

Antiseptic for cleansing wounds, cuts, abrasions, and minor skin infections. Also used pre- and post-operatively as a surgical scrub and skin disinfectant.

Ingredients

• Povidone
• iodine 10% w/v (equivalent to 1% available iodine)

Direction

Apply to the affected area undiluted or diluted with water. Use as a wound wash or apply with a swab. For surgical use, follow hospital protocol.

Side effects

• Skin irritation and staining
• Rarely: allergic/hypersensitivity reactions
• Systemic iodine absorption with extensive use

Precautions

• Avoid contact with eyes.
• Do not use in patients with known iodine allergy or thyroid disorders.
• Avoid in premature infants and newborns.
• Do not apply to large body surface areas for prolonged periods.
• May interfere with thyroid function tests.
