Indication
Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure), reduction of the risk of stroke in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy, and treatment of diabetic nephropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Ingredients
- Losartan potassium 50mg
Direction
Adults: Take 50mg orally once daily. Dose may be increased to 100mg once daily if needed. May be taken with or without food.
Side effects
- Dizziness
- Hypotension (especially with first dose)
- Elevated serum potassium
- Renal impairment
- Upper respiratory tract infections
- Rarely
- angioedema
Precautions
- Contraindicated during pregnancy (especially second and third trimesters) due to risk of fetal harm.
- Avoid concurrent use with ACE inhibitors or aliskiren in patients with diabetes or renal impairment.
- Monitor renal function and potassium levels periodically.
- Use with caution in patients with renal artery stenosis or severe hepatic impairment.
- Avoid potassium supplements or potassium
- sparing diuretics unless directed.
