Indication
Nandiazine (Metronidazole 500 mg) is an antiprotozoal and antibacterial agent used to treat anaerobic bacterial infections and protozoal infections including amoebiasis (intestinal and liver abscess), giardiasis, trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis, and various anaerobic bacterial infections of the oral cavity, GI tract, and soft tissues.
Ingredients
- Metronidazole 500 mg
Direction
Adults: 400–500 mg two to three times daily for 5–10 days depending on the condition. Amoebiasis: 500–750 mg three times daily for 5–10 days. Giardiasis: 250–500 mg three times daily for 5–7 days. Trichomoniasis: 2 g single dose or 500 mg twice daily for 7 days. Take with food to reduce GI irritation.
Side effects
- Nausea and vomiting.
- Metallic taste in the mouth.
- Diarrhoea.
- Headache.
- Dizziness.
- Dark (reddish
- brown) urine (harmless).
- Peripheral neuropathy with prolonged use (tingling or numbness).
- Seizures (rare
- with high doses).
Precautions
- Avoid alcohol during treatment and for at least 48 hours after completion — disulfiram
- like reaction (flushing
- nausea
- vomiting
- headache) may occur.
- Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
- May cause neurological adverse effects with prolonged high
- dose therapy.
- Use with caution in patients with blood dyscrasias.
- Not recommended in the first trimester of pregnancy.
- May potentiate the anticoagulant effect of warfarin.
- Keep out of reach of children.
