Clarobil 500mg

Indication

Clarobil 500 mg contains clarithromycin, a macrolide antibiotic used to treat respiratory tract infections (community-acquired pneumonia, bronchitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis), skin and soft tissue infections, Helicobacter pylori eradication (as part of combination therapy), and atypical mycobacterial infections.

Ingredients

• Clarithromycin 500 mg

Direction

Adults: 250–500 mg twice daily for 7–14 days. H. pylori eradication: 500 mg twice daily for 7–14 days (in combination with amoxicillin and a PPI). Take with or without food.

Side effects

• Nausea and vomiting.
• Abdominal pain.
• Diarrhoea.
• Abnormal taste (dysgeusia).
• Headache.
• QT prolongation and arrhythmias (rare).
• Hepatotoxicity (rare).
• Skin rash.

Precautions

• Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity to macrolides.
• Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
• May prolong the QT interval — avoid in patients with known QT prolongation or with other QT
• prolonging drugs.
• Strong CYP3A4 inhibitor — significant drug interactions (statins
• warfarin
• carbamazepine
• etc.).
• Do not use in patients with hypokalaemia.
• Use with caution in patients with myasthenia gravis.
• Avoid in pregnancy (teratogenicity concerns).
• Keep out of reach of children.
