Indication
Cefon 1000 Injection (Ceftriaxone 1 g) is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used for serious bacterial infections including septicaemia, meningitis, pneumonia, urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, gonorrhoea, and surgical prophylaxis.
Ingredients
- Ceftriaxone sodium 1000 mg (1 g) per vial
Direction
For intravenous or intramuscular administration by trained healthcare personnel only. Adults: 1–2 g once daily (IV or IM). Severe infections: up to 4 g daily. Children: 50–100 mg/kg/day. For meningitis: up to 100 mg/kg/day. Duration as prescribed by a physician.
Side effects
- Injection site pain or phlebitis.
- Diarrhoea
- nausea.
- Rash
- urticaria.
- Eosinophilia
- leucopenia.
- Biliary sludge/gallstones with prolonged use.
- Pseudomembranous colitis (rare).
Precautions
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or penicillins.
- Do not mix with calcium
- containing IV solutions in neonates (risk of fatal precipitation).
- Use with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment.
- May cause biliary sludge/cholelithiasis with prolonged use.
- Monitor for Clostridium difficile
- associated diarrhoea.
- For parenteral administration by healthcare professionals only.
- Keep out of reach of children.
