Indication
Oxymetazoline HCl 0.05% is a topical nasal decongestant used to relieve nasal congestion associated with colds, sinusitis, hay fever, and other upper respiratory tract conditions. It acts by constricting blood vessels in the nasal mucosa to reduce swelling and open nasal passages.
Ingredients
- Oxymetazoline hydrochloride 0.05% w/v nasal spray/drops
Direction
Adults and children over 6 years: 2–3 drops or sprays into each nostril twice daily (morning and evening). Do not use for more than 3–5 consecutive days without medical advice.
Side effects
- Nasal dryness
- burning
- or stinging.
- Rebound congestion with prolonged use.
- Headache.
- Systemic effects (palpitations
- hypertension) with excessive use or in susceptible patients.
Precautions
- Do not use for more than 3–5 consecutive days — risk of rebound congestion (rhinitis medicamentosa).
- Avoid in patients with known hypersensitivity to oxymetazoline or sympathomimetic amines.
- Use with caution in patients with hypertension
- cardiac disease
- thyroid disease
- diabetes
- or glaucoma.
- Avoid concurrent use with MAO inhibitors.
- Not recommended for children under 6 years.
- Do not share nasal applicators.
- Keep out of reach of children.
